Nowhere Canary

Gran Canaria. Hopes were high when we left Fuertaventura that Gran Canaria would bring us new harbours with welcoming pontoons, yeah yeah, and some places to anchor too, yeah yeah .... Did we mention before that Jan is not that much into anchoring? And that that's somewhat of an understatement?
We leave the port of Moro Jable at 6.30, when the sun is comming up. Ah, the smell of diesel fumes in the morning! Yeah, we were berthed next to the ferries, and the too leave when the roosters crow, and at midnight, and every 4 hours, since Fred Olson as well as Naviera Armas frequent this place.Convienient. And since the blow the horn when leaving the harbour ... No wake up call needed.
After a few great hours sailing, we arrived in the acceleration zone between the islands. From 15 to 38 in minutes, that's acceloration for you! Reefs enough in our new sails, so we got without any trouble at a great pace 7,8 average, to the leward side of Gran Canaria where all wind vanished as fast as it came on 25 miles earlier. Finding a suitable harbour was however the bigger issue of the day.
After 12 hours at sea we just wanted to berth. Period. In the last harbour, Puerto Mogan we finally found a vacant spot. Note; if ever comming here, THEY USE CHANNEL 12 !!! Calling at the usual channel 9 gets you nowhere. Anyway, here we are. A pleasant, village-like harbour, that's swarmed with mainly Norsk, Danish, and Swedish people who are so well know for their open, friendly and welcomming attitude! Grave yard pontoon, that's where we ended up. Let's get us a car and explore the island! Fast!
We got our personal Canary from the very professional and reasonably priced Cabrera Medina/Cicar corporaton that's everywhere to be found on the Canary Islands. And our first stop over was in the fisheing harbour Arguineguin. As it turns out, the only 'local' place at the west coast where ther don't steal you blind for some tasty tapas. It became our favorite place.
We arrived back at our berth place late in the evening and plan to go explore the mountains tomorrow. The option is parking for free on the street or paying 14,75 Euro a day for a parking spot in the harbour. Guess what we, cheap bastards, did?!
It's hot in the harbour, that is well shielded from the wind. So well that there's no wind at all. 32 degrees in the morning sun at breakfast. Let's head for the hills! But, ... Dude, ... Where's my car? And why is there a market? And why did noone mention that?
The friendly police man, ... he really was, ... honestly, he was, tells us that we can find our car at the parking lot in front of hyper Dino; the supermarket of choice at the islands. Only a A0 minute walk away, kinda ... . And then it turns out Cicar bought a fracking lot of yellow Opel Corsa's ... The never ending search for nowhere, you say?  Traveling is always an adventure! But the scenary can be great at times. Judge for yourself!
