We left the marina right on time.  In the first dark hours we sailed only on genua. I had the wish the acceleration zone are passed to hoist the mainsail in the rising sun. So we did. After 12 hours we were sailing close to the North side of Tenerife. Anneloes received a message from a friend about horrific bombings in Belgium National Airport. Hearing this i contacted undoubtedly Jan to hear this horrible news, being very glad he was okay. Anneloes and i had a good sailing night; sun under and moon arised. Fantastic!  We alternated every 2 hours. It felt comfortable for the two of us.  After sunrise i had to wake up Anneloes to make us ready for sailing under less sail. We had in the night 12-18 knots wind, but in a couple of seconds there were more (as usual in Canaries). I could not help but cry to Anneloes firmly that she now had to come immediately. Good, she did! That's so important. To have crew who listen what you ask. Very important at crucial moments. S

On Thursday and Friday Kees and Margaretha arrived. On Thursday we did a small job in the mast.... Kees did. Jan Hayward explained and educated Kees how to solder the new vhf antenna. Kees did very well. Jan did a check on Friday and the signal was great. So Saturday we left the harbour between 11u30 and 12u30. The first night we sailed with too little sail. But better safe than fast is my motto, knowing that my crew still do not know well the ship and sailing in Canary Islands. Meanwhile, i found out why thr Volvo Ocean SCA team came to train here😉 Sometimes you really have to deal with high waves and a lot of wind. During this trip we had medium to low wind. Because i couldn't sleep the first night and i was exhausted, we took the decision to sail to SC de Tenerife. We entered the marina around 20h and rested there for 2 nights. Now i know why doctors told me to not work anymore at night.... i only didn't sleep, worked a little bit and had a nasty swell.... i really wa

A new VHF antenna and more safety on board

Latest news. 3 weeks ago I discovered a broken VHF antenna 19 m lower than where he normally hear. I went two times in the mast. Meanwhile I have already posted new antenna but the coaxial cable must be soldered to the connector at the top of the mast. I've found someone who should not be in the tower but can learn solder me. We will therefore just as do 21 or January 22nd. I welcome hearing currently, but obviously not so overwhelming. I'm going to try to connect the antenna cable properly. Not that I want to use it, rather never, but after seeing the film "All is lost" I decided to do now to buy epirb and mob. I realize that which is experiencing the solo sailor in the film to 1700nm of land, any sailor can happen (and that chance is increasing more and more) ..... also short overhangs. Hence ... for now no solar panels or wind generator. ... And honestly ... After surely been a stormy three numerous adventures in which Jan was last crippled by panic (while ev
