Christmas and New Year on the boat

The more time we spent on Lanzarote, the more we become convinced that this a great place to stay for a long looooong time. In winter the climate is still very mild, even warm. The more we drive around the island, the more beautifull places and delicious restaurants we discover. La Raspa and Divana are newly opened busnisses at the inshore lake next to the marina. The one offers a delicious blend of Spanish and Frensh cuisine, the other serves one of the best pizzas we ever had. Christmas eve we dined with our friend Petra at Las Maretas, a local restaurant that serves simple but honest dishes of superb fish and meat. Life is good here, and at least 20 % cheaper than in Belgium.

The ship shops next to the harbour are conveniend altough you sometimes have to wait a few days for materials to arrive. Who cares. This time we needed a new antenna. When we arrived it had installed itselve on deck. So Soraya was hoisted in the mast again.

The water boiler needed a new thermostate and Jan Hayward, our friendly mechanic installed  it for 50 euro, time and materials included. New annodes placed by a diver and the propellor cleaned? 45 euros for Georg, a typical Bavarian beer belly with great conversation skills and numerous stories up his sleeve. He's also runs one of the bigger dive shops. Thats one for next years buckett list.

New contract for one year? 4950 euros all in and with the agreement that when we leave the harbour for 5 days or more, the time outside the harbour is added at the end of the contract.  In 2016 we plan to go to La Palma for 2 months, that time we get back next january and february 2017 for free in Lanzarote. Leave you say? Not very likely.
